RMKS/1. THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE HAS DESIGNATED OCTOBER 8 THROUGH
14, 2006 AS ABSENTEE VOTING WEEK. DURING THIS TIME, VOTING
ASSISTANCE OFFICERS (VAOS) ARE ASKED TO ANNOUNCE, THROUGH VARIOUS
MEDIA, THAT VOTERS SHOULD RETURN THEIR VOTED BALLOT IMMEDIATELY UPON
RECEIVING IT.
2. OVERSEAS VOTERS SHOULD VOTE AND RETURN THEIR STATE ABSENTEE
BALLOT OR THE FEDERAL WRITE-IN ABSENTEE BALLOT (FWAB) DURING THIS
WEEK TO MAKE SURE THEIR BALLOT IS RECEIVED BY THE LOCAL ELECTION
OFFICIAL IN TIME TO BE COUNTED. IF YOU RECEIVE YOUR STATE ABSENTEE
BALLOT AFTER SUBMITTING THE FWAB, VOTE AND RETURN THE STATE BALLOT.
3. FOR THOSE STATES THAT ALLOW LATE COUNTING, BALLOTS MUST BE VOTED
ON OR BEFORE ELECTION DAY AND MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE STATE LATE
COUNTING DEADLINE.
4. OVERSEAS VAOS CONSULT WITH THEIR LOCAL MILITARY POST OFFICE FOR
THE LATEST DATE VOTERS MAY SEND THEIR BALLOT (DEPENDING ON COUNTRY
MAIL CONDITIONS) AND HAVE IT RECEIVED BY THE LOCAL ELECTION OFFICIAL
IN TIME TO BE COUNTED.
5. ALL VAOS ARE REMINDED TO LOG ONTO VOTING INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM QUARTERLY TO ENSURE THEIR REPORTING INFORMATION IS CORRECT
AND UP TO DATE.

ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (NVAP) STANDS READY TO ASSIST VAOS AT ALL LEVELS
