RMKS/1.  THIS NAVADMIN ANNOUNCES THE CONFORMANCE TESTING OF THE NAVY WORKING 
UNIFORM
 (NWU) TYPE III (WOODLAND PATTERN) CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN FEATURES, AS 
ADDRESSED IN  REF A.  THE NWU TYPE III IS OF UNISEX DESIGN, AND INCLUDES THE 
NAVY'S LOGO (ANCHOR,  CONSTITUTION, AND EAGLE) IMPRINTED IN THE PATTERN ON THE 
FABRIC.  THE NWU TYPE III WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING TRI-COLORED WOODLAND 
CAMOUFLAGE UTILITY UNIFORM AND WILL BE THE STANDARD CAMOUFLAGE UNIFORM WORN IN 
CONUS. IT WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO BE WORN WHILE DEPLOYED, AS PRESCRIBED BY 
COMBATANT COMMANDERS.

2.  THE NWU TYPE III CONFORMANCE TEST WILL LAST FOR A PERIOD OF SIX WEEKS.  
150 SAILORS, REPRESENTING NAVY SPECIAL WARFARE, NAVAL CONSTRUCTION FORCE, 
EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL, AND AMPHIBIOUS CONSTRUCTION BATTALION UNITS, WILL 
EVALUATE THE NWU TYPE III FORM, FIT, AND FUNCTION, AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON ITS 
PERFORMANCE IN VARIOUS TERRAINS DURING MULTIPLE GROUND EXERCISES.  LEADERS 
FROM SPECIAL OPERATIONS  COMMAND, NAVAL SPECIAL WARFARE, NAVAL EXPEDITIONARY 
COMBAT COMMAND, AND NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND WILL ALSO PARTICIPATE 
AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE UNIFORM.  PERSONNEL WILL PRIMARLY BE SEEN WEARING 
THE UNIFORM IN THE VICINITIES OF NORFOLK, SAN DIEGO, TAMPA AND OTHER LOCATIONS 
WHERE CONFORMANCE TEST PERSONNEL ARE ASSIGNED.  THE NWU TYPE III IS NOT 
AUTHORIZED TO BE WORN IN THE NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION.

3.  SAILORS WILL BE ISSUED TWO VERSIONS OF THE UNIFORM TO DETERMINE THE BEST 
FEATURES TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE FINAL DESIGN OF THE NWU TYPE II (DESERT 
PATTERN) AND NWU TYPE III.  BOTH VERSION 1 AND 2 ARE BASED ON THE NWU TYPE I 
SIZING, BUT INCORPORATE DIFFERENT DESIGN FEATURES, SUCH AS POCKET SIZE, POCKET 
FLAP DESIGN, RANK PLACEMENT AND TROUSER WAIST ADJUSTMENT.  WEAR OF THE NWU 
TYPE III SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NAVADMIN 188/09.

4.  THE RESULTS OF THE CONFORMANCE TEST WILL BE BRIEFED TO THE NAVY UNIFORM 
BOARD.
PREPARATIONS FOR THE PRODUCTION CONTRACT ARE UNDERWAY.  INITIAL FIELDING IS 
ANTICIPATED TO START IN THE SUMMER OF 2011.
