APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR THE FY11 MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF 
TECHNOLOGY (MIT)/WOODS HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION (WHOI) 
OCEANOGRAPHY MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM PER REF A.  TWO QUOTAS ARE 
AVAILABLE FOR JUNE 2011 STARTS.  THIS PROGRAM TYPICALLY REQUIRES 24-27 
MONTHS TO COMPLETE.  APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY
08 JANUARY 2011 AND SELECTIONS WILL BE MADE BY MARCH 2011.

2.  ELIGIBILITY AND PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS FOR ACTIVE-DUTY OFFICERS IN 
FY11 INCLUDE:
    A.  LT/LCDR UNRESTRICTED LINE (URL) OFFICERS IN DESIGNATORS 111X, 
112X, 131X, OR 132X, ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION IN FY11.
    B.  LT/LCDR RESTRICTED LINE OFFICERS (RL) IN DESIGNATOR 18XX, ARE 
ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION IN FY11.
    C.  USNA/NROTC MIDSHIPMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION IN 
FY11.
    D.  APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS OF 
MIT/WHOI.  ACADEMIC PROFILE CODE (APC) OF 012 OR BETTER IS RECOMMENDED.  
GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE) MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN THE LAST FIVE 
YEARS.  GRE SCORES OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS HAVE GENERALLY EXCEEDED 
VERBAL 650, QUANTITATIVE 650, AND ANALYTICAL WRITING 4.0.
    E.  THE SELECTEES MUST BE AVAILABLE TO REPORT TO MIT/WHOI IN MID-
JUNE 2011.

3.  THE SELECTEE WILL RETAIN THEIR DESIGNATOR UPON GRADUATION AND IS 
ELIGIBLE FOR THE 6402P SUBSPECIALTY CODE (OPERATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHY) 
AFTER FULLY SATISFYING THE EDUCATIONAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS.  THE PROGRAM 
IS EXECUTED UNDER A NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL (NPS) APPROVED EDUCATION 
PLAN (EP) THAT MEETS THE EDUCATIONAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE 6402P 
SUBSPECIALTY CODE.  NO CHANGES MAY BE MADE TO THE APPROVED EP WITHOUT 
PRIOR CONSENT OF NPS.

4. SUBMIT APPLICATION AND GRE RESULTS TO MIT/WHOI TO ARRIVE NO LATER 
THAN 08 JANUARY 2011.  APPLICATION FORMS MAY BE SUBMITTED 
ELECTRONICALLY.  APPLICATION FORMS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE AT
