OBSERVANCE DAY TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 19, 2009.  THIS YEAR'S THEME, 
"REMEMBER, CELEBRATE, ACT, A DAY ON, NOT A DAY OFF," REMINDS ALL TO 
CHAMPION OUR DIVERSITY AND CELEBRATE THE HARD WON FREEDOMS AS DR. 
KING INTENDED.
2.  DR. KING ENVISIONED A UNITED AMERICA CREATED THROUGH NON- VIOLENT 
SOCIAL CHANGE.  HE LEARNED FROM HISTORY, THEOLOGY, AND THE EXAMPLE OF 
OTHERS, AND HIS GIFT WAS IN TRANSLATING THOSE LESSONS INTO MESSAGES 
THAT MOTIVATED HIS FELLOW CITIZENS TO PURSUE THE FULL RIGHTS OF 
CITIZENSHIP AND RESPECT OF OTHERS.  DR. KING'S LEGACY LIVES ON THROUGH 
THIS NATIONAL OBSERVANCE, AND OUR COMMITMENT TO LIVE BY THE PRINCIPLES 
HE UPHELD. 
3.  OUR NAVY TODAY CHAMPIONS THE DIVERSITY THAT DR. KING RELISHED.  
WE LIVE UP TO HIS WORDS AND LEGACY BY REMAINING AN ORGANIZATION THAT 
JUDGES OUR SAILORS BY THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER AND PROFESSIONAL 
PERFORMANCE.  IN OUR NAVY TODAY, ANYONE CAN LIVE UP TO DR. KING'S DREAM.
