RMKS/1. THE USS BAINBRIDGE AWARD, NAMED IN HONOR OF A SHIP THAT 
CONSISTENTLY PROVIDED TREMENDOUS COMMUNITY SUPPORT, IS GIVEN TO A NAVY 
COMMAND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING EFFORTS IN WORKING WITH AMERICA'S 
COMMUNITIES.
2. IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT I ANNOUNCE THE 2007 USS BAINBRIDGE 
AWARD WINNER:
A. NAVY INFORMATION OPERATIONS COMMAND, SUGAR GROVE, WV, FOR PROVIDING 
OUTSTANDING SUPPORT TO THE SUGAR GROVE COMMUNITY. THE SAILORS AT THIS 
COMMAND GREATLY IMPACTED THIS SMALL COMMUNITY BY TRAINING 100 HIGH 
SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE USE OF CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION  (CPR), 
TEARING DOWN AN UNSAFE PLAYGROUND, DONATING 120 PINTS OF BLOOD, 
DELIVERING 120 THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS TO NEEDY FAMILIES, AND 
DONATING 578 HOURS TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TO HELP BUILD FIVE HOUSES. 
THESE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF THIS COMMANDS TIRELESS EFFORTS TO 
IMPROVE THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH THESE SAILORS LIVE AND WORK.
B. I AM ALSO PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2007 HONORABLE 
MENTION:  USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19). TRANSITIONING FROM A PRE-
COMMISSIONING UNIT TO AN OPERATIONAL SHIP AND CHANGING HOME PORTS, THIS 
CREW STILL MANAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL FIVE FLAGSHIPS. THESE SAILORS 
HELPED CHILDREN IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC TEST SCORES, HELPED FULLY 
RESTORE A HURRICANE KATRINA DAMAGED HOME RESULTING IN A 25,000 DOLLAR 
SAVINGS TO THE OWNER, SPONSORED A LOCAL FOOD DRIVE IN CONJUNCTION WITH 
TWO OTHER SHIPS COLLECTING 1,200 POUNDS OF CANNED GOODS, AND HAD AN 
ACTIVE ROLE IN RED RIBBON WEEK HELPING KEEP KIDS OFF DRUGS.
3. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL AND TO THE COMMUNITIES THAT BENEFITED FROM 
OUR DEDICATED AND CARING SAILORS AND CIVILIANS EFFORTS. YOUR 
PARTICIPATION AND CONTINUED SUPPORT OF OUR NAVYS COMMUNITY SERVICE 
PROGRAMS ARE SINCERELY APPRECIATED AND ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
4. THE AWARD WINNER WILL RECEIVE A COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE. THE HONORABLE 
MENTION WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE.
