INFORMATION (CHINFO) DIRECTED THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE REAR ADMIRAL 
WILLIAM THOMPSON AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE AND THE REAR ADMIRAL ROBERT A. 
RAVITZ AWARDS FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS EXCELLENCE IN THE UNITED STATES NAVAL 
RESERVE. REF A, THE THOMPSON-RAVITZ AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN NAVY 
PUBLIC AFFAIRS INSTRUCTION, IS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE DEPARTMENT OF THE 
NAVY ISSUANCES WEB SITE AT HTTP://DONI.DAPS.DLA.MIL. THE AWARDS BEAR 
THE NAMES OF REAR ADMIRAL WILLIAM THOMPSON, THE FIRST DESIGNATED PUBLIC 
AFFAIRS OFFICER SELECTED FOR FLAG RANK, AND REAR ADMIRAL ROBERT A. 
RAVITZ, THE DIRECTOR OF THE NAVAL RESERVE PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM FROM 
1986 TO 1989.
2. THE THOMPSON-RAVITZ AWARDS PROGRAM PROMOTES PUBLIC AFFAIRS 
PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENT AND THE STRONG INTEGRATION OF THE ACTIVE 
AND RESERVE COMPONENTS. THE PROGRAM IS THE NAVY'S PREMIER METHOD OF 
RECOGNIZING THE BEST OF THE NAVY'S PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAMS AND 
PROFESSIONALS. THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS TEAM DID AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB OF 
TELLING THE NAVY'S STORY IN 2008. COMMANDS AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE EARNED 
RECOGNITION FOR THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. THE WINNING PROGRAMS AND 
INDIVIDUALS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE NAVY PUBLIC AFFAIRS TRAINING 
SYMPOSIUM FROM 7-10 JUNE 2009.
3. IN ADDITION TO THE MERGER OF THE TWO AWARDS PROGRAMS, THERE ARE 
CHANGES TO THE UNIT CATEGORIES WHICH INCLUDE:

FOUR INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES ARE NOW IN THE PROGRAM:
A. JUNIOR PAO OF THE YEAR (O-1 TO O-3)
B. JUNIOR RESERVE PAO OF THE YEAR (O-1 TO O-3) C. JUNIOR CIVILIAN PAO 
OF THE YEAR (GS-11 EQUIVALENT AND BELOW) D. ENLISTED PAO OF THE YEAR 5.
