CEREMONIAL GUARD, WASHINGTON, DC; WINNERS OF THE 2005 USS BAINBRIDGE
AWARD. THE USS BAINBRIDGE AWARD IS PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO A NAVY
COMMAND IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR OUTSTANDING OVERALL COMMUNITY
SERVICE EFFORTS.
2. THE U.S. NAVY CEREMONIAL GUARD IS BEING RECOGNIZED FOR DEDICATING
MORE THAN 4,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE
GREATER WASHINGTON, DC AREA. THESE CARING SAILORS HAVE PARTICIPATED
IN MENTORING PARTNERSHIPS, ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, THE SPECIAL
OLYMPICS, THE DRUG EDUCATION FOR YOUTH PROGRAM, AND DOZENS OF OTHER
COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT THOUSANDS OF LOCAL
CITIZENS. IN ADDITION, THE U.S. NAVY CEREMONIAL GUARD HAS REACHED
OUT TO THE FAMILIES OF FALLEN SERVICE MEMBERS THROUGH THE TRAGEDY
ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS (TAPS), BY SERVING AS POSITIVE ROLE
MODELS AND HELPING CHILDREN TO BEGIN THE HEALING PROCESS.
3. CONGRATULATIONS ARE ALSO IN ORDER FOR THE MEN AND WOMEN OF USS
FRANK CABLE (AS 40), WINNERS OF THE 2005 USS BAINBRIDGE HONORABLE
MENTION AWARD. USS FRANK CABLE SAILORS PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR THE
NAVY'S PERSONAL EXCELLENCE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM BY TUTORING AND
MENTORING THE COMMUNITY'S YOUTH TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE ACADEMIC
SUCCESS, AND VOLUNTEERED MORE THAN 2,000 HOURS WHILE IN PORT AND
UNDERWAY TO CONDUCT HUMANITARIAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSISTANCE.
FRANK CABLE SAILORS ALSO SPEARHEADED COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROJECTS IN
SEVERAL VILLAGES ON THE ISLAND OF GUAM, PROMOTING FRIENDSHIPS THAT
WILL LAST A LIFETIME.
4. EFFORTS SUCH AS THESE TYPIFY THE QUALITY OF TODAY'S SAILORS. OUR
SAILORS AREN'T JUST OUTSTANDING WARRIORS, THEY'RE ALSO CARING
CITIZENS AND ROLE MODELS WHO GIVE UNSELFISHLY OF THEIR TALENT AND
TIME TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE NAVY AND THE
NATION ARE VERY PROUD OF ALL OF YOU.
