RMKS/1. IT IS WITH SINCERE SADNESS THAT I REPORT THE PASSING OF ADMIRAL DAVID 
E. JEREMIAH, USN (RET) ON 8 OCTOBER 2013. ADMIRAL JEREMIAH GRADUATED FROM THE 
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON IN 1955, ENLISTED IN THE NAVAL RESERVE IN 1955 AND WAS 
COMMISSIONED IN 1956.

2. HIGHLIGHTS OF HIS 39 YEARS OF HONORABLE SERVICE INCLUDE ASSIGNMENT AS THE 
VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF (INCLUDING A YEAR AS THE ACTING 
CHAIRMAN), COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE U.S. PACIFIC FLEET, COMMAND OF CRUISER 
DESTROYER GROUP EIGHT, DESTROYER SQUADRON 24, AND USS PREBLE (DLG-15), AS 
WELL AS SERVICE ON SIX PACIFIC FLEET DESTROYERS. ASHORE, HE SERVED ON THE 
STAFF OF THE CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS AS EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT, AND IN THE 
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE. HE WAS A NOTED AUTHORITY ON STRATEGIC 
PLANNING AND THE POLICY IMPLICATIONS OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY.

3. FOR HIS SERVICE AS VICE CHAIRMAN DURING THE GULF WAR, HE RECEIVED THE 
PRESIDENTIAL CITIZENS MEDAL FROM PRESIDENT GEORGE H. W.
BUSH. WHILE SERVING AS COMMANDER OF CRUISER DESTROYER GROUP EIGHT AND 
COMMANDER TASK FORCE 60 IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA, HE DIRECTED THE CAPTURE OF 
THE AIRLINER TRANSPORTING THE HIJACKERS OF THE MS ACHILLE LAURO AND LED 
MILITARY OPERATIONS AGAINST LIBYA IN OPERATION EL DORADO CANYON.

4. FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT IN 1994, ADMIRAL JEREMIAH SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF 
TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIES AND ALLIANCES CORPORATION AND AS A MEMBER OF NUMEROUS 
CORPORATE AND PUBLIC SERVICE BOARDS INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT'S FOREIGN 
INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY BOARD.

5. GUESTS ARE WELCOME FOR VISITATION 1400-1600, 12 OCTOBER AT MONEY AND KING 
FUNERAL HOME, LOCATED AT 171 MAPLE AVE. WEST, VIENNA, VA 22180. GUESTS ARE

UNITED METHODIST CHURCH LOCATED AT 1205 DOLLEY MADISON BLVD., MCLEAN, VA, 
22101. UNIFORM FOR NAVY PERSONNEL IS SERVICE DRESS BLUES (NO MEDALS, GLOVES 
OR NAME TAGS).

6. ADMIRAL JEREMIAH IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE CONNIE AND TWO DAUGHTERS. HE WAS 
AN INSPIRATIONAL LEADER, AN OUTSTANDING SHIPMATE, AND WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED 
BY HIS COMMUNITY AND THE NAVY FAMILY.

7. IN ACCORDANCE WITH REFERENCE (A), THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 
SHALL BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF ON ALL DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE BUILDINGS, GROUNDS, 
AND NAVAL VESSELS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND ABROAD. END DATE FOR THE 
PERIOD OF HALF-STAFFING WILL BE PROMULGATED VIA SEPARATE MESSAGE.
