RMKS/1. This NAVADMIN announces the selection of Mrs. Laura Baxter as the
Navy's 2012 Spirit of Hope Award winner. For six years Mrs. Baxter has been
instrumental in the production of five signature
military community events; Heroes at Home Military Spouse Awards, the
Flagship Military Style 5K Obstacle Course Challenge, Fleet Week Chili Cook-
off, Hampton Roads Navy Birthday Ball, and Military Retirees and Veterans'
Award. These events are aimed at recognizing the achievements of all active-
duty service members, the veterans' community, and military families in the
Hampton Roads, VA area. She also selflessly volunteers her time to numerous
service organizations that support the quality of life of military members
and their families, to include: United Service Organizations of Hampton
Roads and Central Virginia, United States Navy League Hampton Roads Chapter,
Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, and the
Tidewater Military Family Service Council.
2. Mrs. Baxter was nominated by Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. She is
the publisher and general manager of Flagship, Inc., and Military Newspapers
of Virginia. Mrs. Baxter truly exemplifies the core values of the Navy
through her never ending support and dedication to our military personnel and
their families in the Hampton Roads community.
3. Mrs. Baxter will be presented the 2012 Spirit of Hope Award at a joint
ceremony honoring awardees from all services at the Pentagon on 19 November
13.
4. The Spirit of Hope Award is named for Mr. Bob Hope and is presented
annually by the Wiegand Foundation to individuals or organizations that
embody Mr. Hope's five decade-long commitment and service to military men and
women.
