THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE THEME FOR THIS YEAR'S OBSERVANCE IS "EXPECTATION PLUS OPPORTUNITY EQUALS FULL PARTICIPATION." 2. THE STRENGTH OF OUR NATION AND NAVY COMES FROM THE DIVERSITY OF OUR PEOPLE, AND WE STRIVE TO REFLECT THE FACE OF AMERICA. A DIVERSE, EFFECTIVE WORKFORCE MUST INCLUDE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR NAVY ARE IMPORTANT TO OUR SUCCESS AND WE MUST SUPPORT THEIR PARTICIPATION IN OUR NAVY TEAM. 3. ALL COMMANDS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO INCREASE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS OF DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AND CONTRIBUTIONS BY RECOGNIZING NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH THROUGH PROGRAMS, EXHIBITS, PUBLICATIONS, AND PARTICIPATION IN MILITARY AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.
