RMKS/1. THIS NAVADMIN ANNOUNCES THE SELECTION OF MR. JAMES W. CARRIER
AS THE 2006 SPIRIT OF HOPE AWARD WINNER.
2. PER REF A, THE SPIRIT OF HOPE AWARD WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE HOPE
FAMILY FOUNDATION IN 1997 IN HONOR OF MR. BOB HOPE. THE SPIRIT OF HOPE
AWARD IS PRESENTED TO INDIVIDUALS WHO EMBODY THE VALUES OF THE MEN AND
WOMEN OF THE MILITARY: DUTY, HONOR, COURAGE, LOYALTY, COMMITMENT AND
INTEGRITY.
3. MR. JAMES W. CARRIER WAS NOMINATED BY COMMANDER, SPECIAL WARFARE
GROUP TWO. MR. CARRIER HAS A SOLID RECORD OF SUPPORT TO THE NAVY.
HE IS CO-FOUNDER OF THE VETERANS APPRECIATION COUNCIL IN GREENWICH,
CONNECTICUT; SERVES ON THE BOARD OF THE NAVY SEAL WARRIOR FUND; AND IS
EXTREMELY ACTIVE IN THE FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION WHERE HE ASSISTED WITH
THE DONATION OF TWO 21-ROOM FISHER HOUSES. ADDITIONALLY, MR. CARRIER
LED THE INTREPID FALLEN HEROES FUND TO RAISE 40M DOLLARS TO BUILD THE
CENTER FOR THE INTREPID, A STATE-OF-THE-ART PHYSICAL REHABILITATION
CENTER AT BROOKE ARMY MEDICAL CENTER. MR. CARRIER’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO
OUR WOUNDED WARRIORS SEEM TO KNOW NO BOUNDS. HE IS ALSO A MEMBER OF
THE MISSION OF HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS, AN ORGANIZATION WHICH IS
DEDICATED TO ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE, HEALTH, WELFARE, AND
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY
INJURY OR DEATH OF THEIR LOVED ONE IN THE LINE OF DUTY.
4. MR. CARRIER WILL BE AWARDED THE 2006 SPIRIT OF HOPE AWARD ON 19
NOVEMBER 2007 AT A CEREMONY IN THE PENTAGON HONORING ALL SERVICES
AWARDEES.
