RMKS/1.  THIS NAVADMIN ANNOUNCES ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION 
PROCEDURES FOR THE FY-10 MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MIT)/WOODS 
HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION (WHOI) MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM.  THIS IS AN 
EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR AN OFFICER TO EARN A MASTERS DEGREE IN OCEANOGRAPHY 
THROUGH THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THESE PRESTIGIOUS LEARNING INSTITUTIONS.

2.  THE SELECTEE WILL RETAIN HIS/HER DESIGNATOR UPON GRADUATION AND WILL BE 
AWARDED THE 6402P SUBSPECIALTY CODE (OPERATIONAL
OCEANOGRAPHY) AFTER FULLY SATISFYING THE EDUCATIONAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS FOR 
THIS SUBSPECIALTY CODE.  THE PROGRAM TYPICALLY REQUIRES 24-27 MONTHS TO 
COMPLETE.  IT WILL BE EXECUTED UNDER A NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL (NPS) 
APPROVED EDUCATION PLAN (EP) THAT MEETS THE EDUCATIONAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS FOR 
THE 6402P SUBSPECIALTY CODE.  NO CHANGES MAY BE MADE TO THE APPROVED EP 
WITHOUT PRIOR CONSENT OF NPS.

3.  ELIGIBILITY AND PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FY-10 PROGRAM
INCLUDE:
    A.  LT/LCDR UNRESTRICTED LINE (URL) OFFICERS IN DESIGNATORS 111X, 112X, 
131X, OR 132X.
    B.  LT/LCDR RESTRICTED LINE OFFICERS (RL) IN DESIGNATOR 180X.
    C.  USNA AND NROTC MIDSHIPMEN ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THE 
FY-10 MIT-WHOI PROGRAM IN OCEANOGRAPHY.
    D.  ACADEMIC PROFILE CODE (APC) OF 012 OR BETTER IS RECOMMENDED.
    E.  GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE) WITHIN THE LAST FIVE YEARS. GRE 
SCORES OF SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS HAVE GENERALLY EXCEEDED VERBAL 650, 
QUANTITATIVE 650, AND ANALYTICAL WRITING 4.0.
    F.  MUST MEET THE ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS OF MIT/WHOI.
    G.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO REPORT TO MIT/WHOI IN MID JUNE 2010.
    H.  MUST SUBMIT APPLICATION AND GRE RESULTS TO MIT/WHOI TO ARRIVE NO LATER 
THAN 5 JANUARY 2010.  APPLICATION FORMS MAY BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY TO THE 
MIT-WOODS HOLE PROGRAM OFFICE.
