RMKS/1. THE NAVY MEDIA AWARDS PROGRAM HAS BEEN REORGANIZED AND EXPANDED TO 
BETTER RECOGNIZE THE DIVERSITY OF MEDIA PRODUCTS IN THE FLEET. NAMED IN HONOR 
OF RETIRED SENIOR CHIEF JOURNALIST RUSSELL D. EGNOR, THE PROGRAM RECOGNIZES 
EXCELLENCE IN NAVY JOURNALISM, PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEOGRAPHY, AND GRAPHIC ARTS 
AMONG NAVY COMMANDS AND THEIR PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND VISUAL INFORMATION
(PA/VI) SPECIALISTS. EGNOR SERVED THE NAVY FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS AS AN ACTIVE 
DUTY AND RESERVE NAVY JOURNALIST AND AS A NAVY CIVILIAN (DIRECTOR OF THE 
NAVY'S NEWS PHOTO DIVISION AT THE NAVY OFFICE OF INFORMATION).

3. THERE ARE 74 NAVY MEDIA AWARD CATEGORIES:
A. UNIT AWARDS. THERE ARE 15 UNIT AWARDS FOR COMMAND/UNIT NEWS- PAPERS AND 
PUBLICATIONS, CRUISEBOOKS, SOCIAL MEDIA AND WEB PAGES AND BROADCASTING 
PRODUCTIONS. THERE IS ALSO A BEST-IN SHOW "NAVY MEDIA EXCELLENCE AWARD" THAT 
WILL BE AWARDED TO THE COMMAND/UNIT THAT DISPLAYS OVERALL EXCELLENCE IN 
INTERNAL INFORMATION PRODUCT PRODUCTION.
B. INDIVIDUAL AWARDS. THERE ARE 41 INDIVIDUAL AWARDS IN FIVE MEDIA AREAS:
(1) AUDIO.
(2) GRAPHIC ARTS.
(3) PHOTOGRAPHY.
(4) VIDEOGRAPHY.
(5) NEWS/FEATURE WRITING.
C. EXCELLENCE AWARDS. THERE ARE 18 PERSONAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS RECOGNIZING THE 
BEST NAVY MEDIA PROFESSIONALS IN THE FLEET.
AWARDS ARE:
(1) NAVY BROADCASTER, NAVY PRINT JOURNALIST, NAVY PHOTOGRAPHER AND NAVY 
GRAPHIC ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARDS WITH OUTSTANDING NEW, MILITARY, AND CIVILIAN 
SUBCATEGORIES IN EACH.
(2) NAVY'S MASS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR (JUNIOR AND SENIOR) FOR 
SEA AND SHORE COMMANDS.
(3) RESERVE MASS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR.
(4) RUSS EGNOR LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD. THIS AWARD IS TO RECOGNIZE THE 
SENIOR (PA/VI) PROFESSIONAL WHO HAS MADE A PROFOUND IMPACT AND CONTRIBUTION TO 
THE MASS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST COMMUNITY AND TO VI PRODUCTS THROUGH 
INSPIRED LEADERSHIP.

WHO ARE ELIGIBLE. THE NAVY'S WORK IN COMMUNICATING OUR MISSION AND SHARING OUR 
STORY HAS BEEN EXCEPTIONAL IN 2012. THE NAVY PROFESSIONALS WHO WORK TO TELL 
THE NAVY STORY DESERVE RECOGNITION FOR THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
