RMKS/1. THIS NAVADMIN ANNOUNCES THE 24TH ANNUAL SEA SERVICE LEADERSHIP
ASSOCIATION (SSLA) WOMEN'S SYMPOSIUM WHICH WILL BE HELD ON 15-16 MARCH
2011 AT THE SHERATON SAN DIEGO HOTEL AND MARINA IN SAN DIEGO, CA. THIS YEAR'S
THEME IS "CONNECT. EMPOWER. SUCCEED."
2. THE PURPOSE OF THE ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM IS TO FOSTER EDUCATION AND CAREER
DEVELOPMENT, AND TO PROVIDE NETWORKING AND MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE
ACTIVE, RESERVE, AND CIVILIAN MEMBERS OF THE SEA SERVICES. EVENT TOPICS
INCLUDE: WOMEN IN NATION BUILDING PANEL; PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS;
DUAL MILITARY COUPLE WORKSHOP; CRITICAL WOMEN'S HEALTH AND FINANCIAL ISSUES;
AND WORK/LIFE BALANCE DISCUSSIONS.
INVITED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS INCLUDE DR. JILL BIDEN, SECOND LADY; GENERAL ANN
DUNWOODY, FIRST FEMALE FOUR STAR; AMBASSADOR ANNE PATTERSON, U.S.
AMBASSADOR TO PAKISTAN; ADMIRAL GARY ROUGHEAD, CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS; AND
MS. TAMMY DUCKWORTH, IRAQ WAR VETERAN AND FORMER HELO PILOT. THE RECIPIENTS
OF THE CAPTAIN JOY BRIGHT HANCOCK LEADERSHIP AWARD WILL ALSO BE RECONGIZED
DURING THE SYMPOSIUM AWARDS LUNCHEON ON 15 MARCH 2011. ADDITIONALLY,
COMMUNITIES WILL HOST INDIVIDUAL BREAKOUT SESSIONS ON THE AFTERNOON OF 16
MARCH
2011 TO
ADDRESS UNIQUE ISSUES AND ACTIVITIES WITHIN THEIR SPECIFIC FIELD.
3. COMMANDING OFFICERS ARE AUTHORIZED TO SUPPORT ATTENDANCE. SSLA IS WAIVING
REGISTRATION FEES FOR THE FIRST 50 JUNIOR ENLISTED (E1-E6) TO REGISTER FOR THE
SYMPOSIUM. COMMANDING OFFICERS MAY AUTHORIZE AND ISSUE TAD ORDERS, TO INCLUDE
REGISTRATION, TRANSPORTATION, LODGING AND PER DIEM IAW REF (A).
4. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE MOST COST-EFFECTIVE TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE,
AGGREGATION OF SYMPOSIUM TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS IS ENCOURAGED.
USE OF NAVY OPERATIONAL SUPPORT AIRLIFT (OSA) AND NAVY UNIQUE FLEET ESSENTIAL
AIRCRAFT (NUFEA) MAY BE REQUESTED, IAW REF B.
5. PER REF C, SELECTED RESERVE PERSONNEL ARE AUTHORIZED TO PARTICIPATE AT THE
SSLA WOMEN'S SYMPOSIUM IN A PAID DRILL STATUS.
