DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS (VA) AND OTHER BENEFITS TO ASSIST IN THESE 
TIMES OF NEED.  ADEQUATE INSURANCE PROTECTION AND COVERAGE SHOULD BE THE

     A.  REVIEW, UPDATE, AND SIGN YOUR PAGE 2 ANNUALLY AND AFTER ANY 
SIGNIFICANT LIFE EVENT SUCH AS MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, BIRTH OF A CHILD, ADDITION 
OF DEPENDENTS AND CHANGE IN DUTY STATION.  MAKE SURE ALL ADDRESSES ARE CURRENT 
AND ALL RELATIVES AND BENEFICIARIES ARE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED AND ACCURATE.  OUT-
DATED INFORMATION CAN DELAY NOTIFICATION OF NEXT-OF-KIN OR RESULT IN ERRONEOUS 
PAYMENTS OF BENEFITS TO PERSONS OTHER THAN THOSE INTENDED BY THE MEMBER.
FINALLY, CHECK YOUR RECORD TO VERIFY THE CHANGES WERE MADE TO REFLECT YOUR

3.  SERVICEMEMBERS' GROUP LIFE INSURANCE (SGLI) PROVIDES LOW-COST TERM LIFE 
INSURANCE COVERAGE TO ELIGIBLE SERVICE MEMBERS.  IF YOU QUALIFY AS ELIGIBLE 
FOR SGLI, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM AT THE MAXIMUM LEVEL

TRAUMATICALLY INJURED SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES TO EASE THE FINANCIAL 
BURDENS ASSOCIATED WITH RECOVERING FROM A SERIOUS INJURY.  PAYMENTS RANGE FROM

COVERAGE IS AVAILABLE IN INCREMENTS OF $10,000 UP TO A MAXIMUM OF $400,000.  
HOWEVER, A SERVICE MEMBER'S INITIAL VGLI COVERAGE AMOUNT CANNOT EXCEED YOUR 
SGLI COVERAGE AMOUNT IN FORCE AT THE TIME OF SEPARATION FROM SERVICE.  SERVICE 
MEMBERS NOW HAVE UP TO 240 DAYS FOLLOWING THEIR DATE OF SEPARATION TO CONVERT 
EXISTING SGLI TO VGLI COVERAGE WITHOUT THE NEED TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF GOOD
